Concerns About The Bill

After the discovery of water on the newly installed wooden floor I decided to speak with the insurance and the loss adjuster in order to find out what is going on.

At 08:49 I left a voicemail to Mr Gary D., Claims Technician – Property Claims, from Zurich Insurance PLC. He is the person who is dealing with my claim at the moment. I requested a call back to discuss the problems.

At 08:50 I left a voicemail to the mobile of Mr Paul C., Regional Executive Adjusting Manager, of GAB Robins Ltd, requesting a call back.

At 08:52 I spoke with Mr Adrian M., Loss Adjuster, form GAB Robins Ltd and he promised to speak with Mr Nick H., Building Services Technical Director from GAB Robins Ltd and ask him to call me back. This did not happened.

At 09:15 Mr Paul C., Regional Executive Adjusting Manager, of GAB Robins Ltd did call me back. I explained the problems and he could not provide any explanation or reasons for the incompetence of their contractors. He did not even had plans for the next steps.

At 10:18 Mr Gary D., Claims Technician – Property Claims, from Zurich Insurance PLC did call back. He mentioned a few interesting and quite alarming things during our conversation:

  • He wanted the decoration works to go ahead even if we will have to replace the floor for a firth time!
  • He implied that my accommodation expenses will reach the limit soon BUT
  • when I mentioned that those expenses have to be covered by the contractors insurance he said: “eventually yes”

Eventually we agreed with Mr Gary D., Claims Technician from Zurich Insurance Plc, to wait from Mr Nick H. to send an email outlining the next steps for rectifying the problems. If I agree we will go ahead otherwise we will have to find an alternative way.

At 16:38 I sent an email to Mr Gary D., Claims Technician – Property Claims, from Zurich Insurance PLC. I stated the following:

Further to our telephone conversation today I would like you to confirm the following:

1) Cost of initial works: £64,500 approx
2) Cost of repairs due to contractors faults: £57,500 (accommodation, food, etc) + labour and materials (£15,000 approx) = £72,500

Read more about the expenses at:
http://www.lifeafterfire.co.uk/?page_id=1140

Please confirm in writing that the second cost will not be used as part of my policy allowance since the contractors’ insurance will have to cover those expenses due to their faults.

Looking forward to hear from you regarding the last 2 leaks on the toilet that destroyed the wooden floor again (less than 3 days since installation).
